CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION

Q2. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?

We promoted our project “Bad Guy-Anam Aqeel '' through our music production company. We created a page on Instagram with the name of “Eclipse Film Studios”. We primarily chose Instagram because of their up-to-date features such as; Instagram stories, highlights, IGTV etc. Our target audience was mostly teenagers, we did have the option to opt for Facebook instead of Instagram but we collectively chose Instagram as it has a larger number of our audience on its platform, another plus point was that we are more comfortable with Instagram's algorithm, how it works and we usually use it in our day-to-day lives. Before posting we did our research and took inspiration from other artists such as Billie Eilish, Weeknd etc. Doing this helped us identify the best way possible to get exposure and spread the word of the upcoming music video. We observed that they posted countdowns, posters, teasers etc. we decided to start posting a week before to create hype and anticipation before the release of the music video. We stuck by a dark, edgy theme because of the attitude of the music video as it  revolves around how fake people can be and how the artist has a sarcastic, witty response for them. We also opted for this theme because we wanted to play with some colour psychology. The colours present in our music video are: red, blue, black and brown. The colour red and black represents power, boldness, strength and energy. This can be seen throughout the music video as the background and as her clothing in a few clips along with gel paper used on our lights to achieve blue and red lighting for example in the last clip specifically she is seen wearing a red jacket which emphasises on strength.  We can also see the colour blue being used multiple times highlighting the artist’s confidence and coldness. For example when Anam sings the main lyric “i'm the bad guy” we shoot a close up with only blue light projected at her face. Brown represents: warmth, support and seriousness. We used this tone in the shots where Anam is laying down with the background and pillows in this colour family. The lighting of that shot is also kept warm to further express warmth. The usage of blue and brown contradict each other as because it is a playful and light-hearted music video, her blunt attitude is equalised with the warm, brown tone which encourages people to drop the fake act and embrace their true personality
